The End of a Wild Ride!

I cannot believe that this semester is coming to an end! I have learned so much while from taking Science and Technology Methods for Childhood Education that has helped me in improving myself as a future teacher. I not only feel more confident teaching science to students, but I feel more knowledgeable of digital tools that I will use in my own classroom.

Before being enrolled in this class, the subject that I was most nervous to teaching was science. We were assigned projects that enhanced our learning of teaching science and also are effective to give to students. We had a chance to teach in groups to a fourth grade class for our fieldwork experience. I've lot from this experience, which include successful ways to teach direct and inquiry lessons, how to manage a class and ways to grab their attention, and how to engage the whole class. Fieldwork also increased my self-confidence as a future teacher and made feel more comfortable in a classroom setting. I faced some challenges along the way but it was all worth it as we watched the students progress and succeed in learning the content we taught them. We also had a chance to watch our classmates teach to the same class. From observing teacher candidates in training, we were able to reflect on what went well and what could have been improved. This was effective in improving their performances as teachers as well as my performance as I got to visually see what worked in a classroom and what didn't. I'm so glad I was given the opportunity to experience teaching to a class before I start student teaching in the fall.

After fieldwork, we were given many projects and activities that enhanced our learning of teaching life science, earth science, space science, and physical science. We were engaged in the content and had many opportunities to improve ourselves as presenters and teachers. Before taking this course, I was always nervous whenever I had to present to a class. From this course, I was given the experience I needed to feel more comfortable speaking in front of others.

As of right now, I am finishing my LiveBinder which is a portfolio that contains the unit plan I've designed, the assignments I've created, and my fieldwork edTPA tasks. The course load might have felt like a lot or was stressful at times, but it was so rewarding to see how much I've grown throughout the semester. Thank you for your interest in reading about my experience in Science and Technology Methods for Childhood Education. I hope you all enjoyed my blog posts!
